Employers are continuing to try to woo employees back to offices across the country, and companies here in Minnesota are no different as they look to return workers to their cubicles after years of working from home.

The only difference now is that employees are empowered by record unemployment numbers and the real threat of simply quitting and finding another job.

Stacy Van Meter, the Vice President of recruiting for Blue Cross/Blue Shield Minnesota, says that returning to fully in-person work doesn’t seem likely in the post pandemic world.

“Honestly, I do think hybrid is the ideal. We do have companies saying, ‘We want to be back full time,’ and it’s that kind of rigid mindset of ‘In your seat from 9 to 5,’ and I truly don’t believe that will work,” Van Meter said.

Van Meter shared this while speaking with News Talk 830 WCCO’s Vineeta Sawkar, saying there is undoubtedly a benefit to getting employees together in the same room and floor.

Still, Minneapolis, like so many other major cities in the U.S., has struggled to find post-pandemic office numbers post-pandemic, Van Meter says.

Xcel Energy is the latest company to require employees to return to the office a few days a week.
