Post-punk. Goth. New Wave. Alternative. But The Cure front man Robert Smith says, it’s all just “Cure music.”

One of the most influential bands in the 80s and 90s alternative scene is coming to the Xcel Energy Center on June 8 to play what is a very rare show in Minnesota. The band has played just once here, 2016, in the last 25 years.

The 2019 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees announced their "Shows of a Lost World Tour," a 30-date tour following their shows in Europe last year. The band has been teasing fans with their first new album in 14 years. It still doesn’t have a release date.

Another U.K. band, Twilight Sad, will open the shows which begin in May in New Orleans.

The band launched itself in America in 1979 behind the hit “Boys Don’t Cry” from their debut album.

Never easily defined, and recreating themselves over and over again for the next two decades, The Cure strung together a bunch of poppy songs such as “Friday I’m In Love”, “In Between Days”, “Close to Me” and “Just Like Heaven”. But they are just as well known for their brooding, melodramatic songs such as “Lovesong” and “Pictures of You”.

Tickets go on sale next Wednesday through Ticketmaster's verified fan site, and for the general public next Friday March 17 at 10:00 a.m. A four ticket limit will be strictly enforced according to Ticketmaster.

“We have priced tickets to benefit fans and our efforts to block scalpers and limit inflated resale prices are being supported by our ticketing partners,” according to a message on the band’s website.

Ticketmaster has come under scrutiny for their ticket policies following a cancellation of sales for Taylor Swift shows, with the ticketing giant announcing there was “insufficient remaining ticket inventory.”
