If you have had to drive the 394 stretch between downtown Minneapolis and Golden Valley anytime over the last year, you know construction on that stretch is a headache. Or worse.
That will be exacerbated on Wednesday night.
Artist Olivia Dean will be at Target Center for a concert, combined with Minnesota Twins baseball at Target Field. And that could create more traffic headaches especially for those traveling from the west metro into downtown Minneapolis.
MnDOT's Nathan Bowie says eastbound traffic is being funneled into the two, EZ Pass lanes, and that is a large bottleneck.
"That is certainly lane reductions, and that will present some delays," Bowie says. "On top of that, there's some additional construction in St. Louis Park. That's where we're seeing some bottlenecks there. So really plan ahead and give yourself some extra time, given that construction on 394 starting around St. Louis Park."
Traffic getting out of downtown headed west on 394 should be a little better with the road's main lanes back open. That project is expected to wrap in November.
In addition, south metro traffic could be dicey Wednesday night as well. Thousands of fans will make their way to the Mystic Lake Amphitheater in Shakopee for the first of two nights featuring country superstar Chris Stapleton.
Bowie says the biggest impact will be 35W north which closes starting at 8:00 p.m. from the split all the way to 494.
"So that means if you're traveling 35 north, and want to get on (Highway) 13, you cannot make that move to Highway 13 to go west to Shakopee," Bowie explains. "So, there is detours posted, but that's one thing to keep in mind is that impact at 35W."
That stretch reopens at 5:00 a.m. Thursday morning.
