Starting Thursday, the art of Banksy will arrive in Minneapolis. The exhibit features more than 100 works of art from the world-famous street artist.
England-based street artist, political activist and film director whose real name and identity remain unconfirmed and the subject of speculation. His art combines dark humor with graffiti executed in a distinctive stenciling technique. His works of political and social commentary have appeared on streets, walls and bridges throughout the world.
Works by the elusive artist will be on display at Lighthouse ArtSpace in Minneapolis. The Art of Banksy will feature more than 100 works including many of his most recognizable images such as “Flower Thrower,” “Rude Copper,” and “Girl with Balloon.”
In true Banksy style, The Art of Banksy is not authorized or curated in collaboration with the artist, but rather sourced from private collections. This allows people to see works that would otherwise stay hidden in private homes or warehouses.
In 2018, an original print of “Girl with Balloon” was auctioned for $1.4 million at Sotheby’s in London. As soon as the piece was sold, the artwork was sucked into a shredder hidden into the frame and torn to pieces. That piece became even more valuable, now titled, “Love is in the Bin.”
The Art of Banksy Exhibit will have a limited run in Minneapolis from May 12 through July 10. Tickets are on sale here.
