We're following developing news out of Edina where there was a large Police presence at Fairview Southdale Hospital near the 6400 block of France Avenue South. Edina Police now confirm the incident has cleared and the area is secure, and roads are now open. A suspect has been arrested.

Just before 3:30 p.m. Edina police posted to social media asking the public to avoid area until further notice.

Edina Police have now confirmed the incident began during what they describe as a domestic dispute, where one of the parties produced a gun leading to the 911 call and the lockdown.

"We determined that there was some type of a domestic assault or domestic dispute that took place inside of one of the rooms and during that domestic situation, somebody produced a handgun, and that's what led to the 911 call," says Edina Police Chief Todd Milburn.

There was no actual gunfire or injuries, but police did say there was a physical altercation during the domestic dispute. The suspect that was arrested is an adult male.

"There was a gun recovered as part of this investigation," Milburn explains. "Who had it in the possession and those kinds of things, that's the part that's still under investigation."

Fairview Southdale is back to what is described as "normal business" but Edina Police did say they would be working with them on security procedures as part of their typical protocol.

WCCO host Denny Long is one of the hospital visitors Tuesday and reported that they had been told to stay in place and couldn't leave.

WCCO Radio's Taylor Rivera is also on the scene and reports the incident may have originated on the 8th floor but police would not confirm that report.
