Minnesota Twins fans will be able to get a look at the team's alternate site workouts starting Saturday at CHS Field.
The St. Paul Saints announced Friday that they will sell $5 tickets for fans to sit and watch any of the 22 alternate site workouts. Only 500 or so fans will be allowed at workout.
"People are just longing to be outside and watch baseball, so we wanted to open the gates," said Sean Aronson, the media relations director for the Saint Paul Saints. "For $5, people can come in and watch the Twins of tomorrow take batting practice and play in simulation games."
Saturday marks the first alternate-site workout for the Twins and runs from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
"A lot of these guys will play for the Saint Paul Saints to start off when the Saints open up in early May," said Aronson.
The Twins have 33 players working out at CHS Field.
"In a perfect world we'd allow fans to get autographs and take photographs, but unfortunately you won't be able to do that," Aronson said. "You will be able to be in the ballpark and in a very intimate atmosphere to check out these guys."
Aronson says CHS Field will likely provide a much more "relaxed" atmosphere for the players and fans.
"I think you're going to see a lot of the same interaction here that you would see at Spring Training. Guys having fun, smiling, and joking around," he said. "They have work to do but it will be that very intimate atmosphere they really won't get anywhere else."
Each ticket is good for the day's single alternate-site workout and can be purchased in blocks of two to six. Fans will be socially distanced along the right field/first base side of the ballpark from sections 101-106 and will have access to concessions.
Fans will finally return to Target Field when the Minnesota Twins make their first home appearance Thursday, April 8 against the Seattle Mariners. Thanks to dialed-back COVID-19 regulations in Minnesota, outdoor venues like Target Field can host up to 10,000 spectators.
CHS Field is hosting a home opener watch party on Thursday with tickets starting at $10.
