One person died Sunday morning during a house fire that also injured two firefighters.
St. Paul fire responded at 8:40 a.m. Sunday to a fire at a two-story home near Carroll Avenue and North Ferdinand Street. Crews witnessed heavy smoke and flames coming from the home.
Three people were inside the home when the fire began. Two of them were able to escape, however, firefighters had to pull the third person from the home. That person suffered serious injuries and died at the scene marking the city's first fire fatality of the year.
Over 70 firefighters responded to the blaze during a four-hour period. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries.
Investigators believe the fire started accidentally in the kitchen.
Heat from the fire damaged an adjacent home. The Red Cross is helping four people who were displaced.
