Fire damages historic hotel in Northfield.
Crews from several agencies were called out Thursday to the Archer House River Inn after a fire was reported in the kitchen.
The flames quickly spread through the 143-year old structure.
“We didn’t want to go inside, and risk anyone’s lives,” said Fire Chief Gary Franek. “A lot of the floors were compromised, some of the floors were burned out and the ceiling has collapsed.”
Witnesses watched as the 143 year old building burned, “Guys have been going in and breaking walls,” said one man. “It’s kind of sad.”
The Archer House is a city landmark and first opened in 1877 and was renovated in 2012.
The extent of damage is unknown and the cause is being investigated.
Nobody was hurt.
