Five dead in Minneapolis crash; driver in suspect car in custody

Four women and a teenaged girl were killed Friday night when the car they were in collided with a vehicle that reportedly had been speeding on Interstate 35-W in Minneapolis.

Police say a man believed to be driver of the car is in custody.

The five are identified by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner as Sahra Gesaade, 20, Salma Abdikadir, 20, Sagal Hersi, 19, Siham Adam, 19, and Sabiriin Ali, 17.

Burial for all five is Monday at Garden of Eden Islamic Cemetery in Burnsville.

There is an online fundraiser for the families.

Authorities say State Patrol officers had tried to stop a car that traveling north on the interstate around 10:15 p.m. Friday.

According to the report, the car took the 46th street off-ramp, ran a red light at Lake Street and Second Avenue, and crashed into the second car.

All five of that car's occupants died at the scene.

Police say it appears the suspect was impaired when the incident occurred.

Names are not released.
