Governor Tim Walz is activating the National Guard today at the request of the City of Minneapolis. The reason is to keep the peace during a visit today by Vice President Mike Pence and Ivanka Trump, the president's daughter.
In a statement, Governor Walz says safety for memebers of the White House is key.
"Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of Minnesotans, we have asked the Minnesota National Guard to assist in keeping the peace."
The two are coming to Minneapolis to meet with a Cops for Trump group. In a statement, Governor Walz says 100 soldiers are being mobilized, along with equipment, to provide additional security.
