Minnesota Governor Tim Walz pulled no punches in his first one-on-one interview since becoming the running mate for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris.

FOX News Sunday host Shannon Bream: "(Donald Trump) has said repeatedly that he will not sign a national abortion ban. Are you calling that, just, it's a flat-out lie?"

Walz: "Yes, of course."

He went on to point out that even JD Vance, Trump's running mate, at one time also said the former president was lying about a nationwide abortion ban."

Walz said while the Republicans see this as an election issue, he called the debate on reproductive rights as a right of women to make their own bodily decisions

The governor has been criticized by some for not making many appearances since rising to the Democratic ticket, with some observers suggesting he was not as polished as Vance during last week's debate.

In one instance, his handling of questions about his time in China, referring to himself as a "knucklehead" when it came to misstatements concerning that, his military service time, and use of fertilization methods.

"I will own up when I misspeak, I will own up when I make a mistake," Walz said, pointing out that Vance would not give an answer when he asked him during the debate if he thought Trump won the 2020 election.

Vance responded that he was looking into the future and not past events.

"I asked one very simple question," said Walz.
