Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has put the National Guard on standby in case of more civil unrest in Uptown Minneapolis.

Uptown has faced many nights of civil unrest after the killing of Winston Smith and Deona Marie. Protesters have shut down the intersection at Lake Street and Girard Ave. Minneapolis Police removed barricades twice on Tuesday while staying in the area that night.

According to a release from the Governor's office, the City of Minneapolis requested the National Guard prepare to assist local law enforcement should they need help. There have been no orders made of the guard at this time.
