A big stadium concert just announced Thursday morning.
Green Day will bring their "Saviors Tour" to Target Field Saturday, August 17 of next year along with special guests The Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and The Linda Lindas.
Presale tickets available a week from today with general sales Friday, November 10.
It's not Green Day's first stint at the Twins' ballpark. They played Target Field in 2021 with Fall Out Boy and Weezer. And of course there is the local connection, with Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong being married to a Minnesota girl.
The Smashing Pumpkins are no slouches either. The 90s era alternative favorites hit it big with albums Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness selling millions of copies and making the Pumpkins modern rock radio stalwarts. They were broken up by 2001 but have reunited and released Atum: A Rock Opera in Three Acts in 2023.
Rancid is another 90s era band that leans more into the old "punk rock" style of music, bringing poppy hooks to hard charging, punk-fueld rock music to the show. Their "....And Out Come The Wolves" from 1995 was a surprise hit, reaching 45 on the Billboard Hot 100 and eventually went Gold.
The Linda Lindas are an all-girl rock band out of LA. They're the newcomers to the other veteran rockers for the Target Field show having formed in 2018. They bring the same punk-styled rock to the show you get from Green Day.
This also makes it a mega-weekend for rock music in Minneapolis. The Target Field show on Saturday is sandwiched between the massive, two-night no repeat weekend from Metallica who are playing U.S. Bank Stadium. Expect to see a lot of black t-shirts and horns in the air that Friday through Sunday downtown.
