An emotional press conference Thursday in St. Paul with parents and advocates speaking out in favor of a law passed in the Minnesota legislature limiting the number of restraints that can be used on students by school resource officers.
The group, called Solutions Not Suspension Coalition, is made of students, parents, community leader and others.
"This is the time to stick to your convictions, and lean on all the data that was intially used to pass this law," said Allie Alowanday. "This is the time to proceed with the law and keep our children protected. This is the time to invest in our students, and fight for them, and prioritize their humanity."
Membes of the group say the law prioritizes de-escalation techniques and prohibits certain restraints and holds.
Several law enforcement agencies have decided to pull school resource officers from schools.
Officials with those agencies say the new law lacks clarity and would prevent the SRO's from doing their job.
