Some local organizations and agencies are optimistically awaiting the new Biden administration’s reversals of some of Trump’s agenda.
That includes those who work with immigrants.
In his first executive orders, Biden is reversing the so-called Muslim ban, strengthening DACA, and is calling on Congress to create a path to citizenship.
“Very, very, very pleased that President Biden (Democrat) has committed to creating a pathway to citizenship and sending a bill to congress on his first day that creates a pathway to citizenship for the millions of undocumented Americans who are contributing so much to our country but just don’t have the papers to show that they are in fat Americans,” Veena Iyer, executive director of the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota, said
Iyer said those changes will assist “getting back to the work of rebuilding an immigration system that has been damaged in so many ways for the last four years and then moving forward to creating a much more just immigration system that works for everyone.”
Iyer said she’s heard of many people in the last several months and years who feared applying for status and she can foresee an uptick in folks taking that step now.
