The faculty council at Hamline University is calling for the resignation of President Fayneese Miller, that after the decision by the university to not retain a professor who showed an image of the Prophet Mohammed during an art history class.
The incident, and the subsequent dismissal of adjunct professor Erika Lopez Prater, led to international debate on academic versus religious freedom.
Some members of the Muslim community called for Lopez Prater to be terminated, citing their religion which disallows certain images to be seen or shown. Lopez Prater has since sued the school for wrongful termination.
86% of the teachers who voted support the resignation of President Miller. So far there is comment from the university.
