Embattled Hamline University president Fayneese Miller says she'll continue to work with students, faculty and the school's entire community to support the best in liberal arts education, with care and respect for all.

Miller's comments were published late Thursday in the Hamline school newspaper "The Oracle", and come less than a week after the school's faculty voted for her to resign.

Miller has been under fire since the St. Paul-based school did not extend the contract of a professor who showed a painting of the Prophet Muhammed in class.

In her statement, Miller says upholding academic freedom is the cornerstone of higher education, and that she will continue to build trust with students and faculty through words and actions.
