The Minnesota Department of Transportation is doing a series of nighttime closures on I-494 and I-35W in Bloomington.

From now through next Tuesday, Sept. 23, crews will close Interstate 494 in both directions between I-35W and Highway 77 (Cedar Ave).

These nightly closures will take place from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. while work is done to pour concrete for the new Portland Avenue bridge decks.

Then, from Tuesday through Friday next week, I-35W will also close in both directions at the I-494 interchange.

Those are also scheduled from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. to pour the concrete deck for the westbound I-494 bridge.

MnDOT is reminding all drivers to be aware of the closures, follow the posted detour routes, and to use extra caution in the new work zones.

The work is part of a yearslong project by MnDOT to construct E-ZPass lanes on I-494 from Hwy 100 to I-35W in each direction and adding a new ramp at the I-35W and I-494 interchange. They are also replacing the bridges crossing over I-494 at Portland Ave., Nicollet Ave., and 12th Ave., and adding a new pedestrian bridge at Chicago Ave. that crosses over I-494 to provide an additional pedestrian and bicycle connection across I-494.
