Republican Keri Heintzeman won Tuesday's GOP primary for an open Minnesota Senate seat left vacant last month after former Sen. Justin Eichorn resigned after he was arrested and charged for soliciting sex from a minor in Bloomington.

As of 10:47 p.m. Tuesday, 100% of precincts had reported results showing Heintzeman leading with 46.77% of the vote. Heintzeman is married to state Rep. Josh Heintzeman and served as district director for President Donald Trump's 2024 campaign.

“I express my heartfelt gratitude to the residents of Senate District 6 for their trust and support in advancing me to the Special Election on April 29th,” wrote Keri Heintzeman, in a statement Tuesday night. “I am deeply honored by their confidence. The upcoming election is critical for restoring fiscal responsibility to our state government and ensuring accountability for the significant waste and fraud under the Walz administration.”

Eight candidates were on the ballot for the special election primary in Senate District 6, while DFLer Denise Slipy became the party's nominee for the seat as the only Democrat on Tuesday's ballot.

“As a reserve officer and former volunteer firefighter, Denise Slipy has dedicated herself to serving her community," said Minnesota DFL Chair Richard Carlbom in a statement. "Denise will fight to protect her constituents’ health care and be a champion for strong public schools because she knows that public service should be about improving people’s lives, not partisan politics."

Senate District 6 covers portions of Crow Wing, Cass and Itasca counties.
