Prior Lake high schooler helping use award winnings to support unsheltered kids

A Prior Lake High School senior is using her winnings from a national award to support unsheltered Minnesota kids.

17-year old Sanya Pirani is the founder and CEO of the non-profit, Sanya’s Hope For Children, her goal is to support local and global children facing homelessness.

Although she has a team helping her now she started her yearly school bag packing event at just 7-years old.

"I realized I wanted to sew these bags and then filled them with school supplies, books, hats, and mittens to deliver to the homeless shelter," says Pirani.

This year Sanya and her team received the $10,000 Be More grant from The National Society of High School Scholars is helping boost their reach.

"Our new record breaking amount of bags was 1,000 bags for homeless children across Minnesota," she explains.

"It's truly heartwarming to me that I'm able to make a difference and be able to assist people who are undervalued and underfunded, who need these items," said Pirani.
