After a couple of pandemic-related delays, the hit Broadway show “Hamilton” returned to The Orpheum in downtown Minneapolis Tuesday night.

Hamilton first took the Orpheum stage in 2018 Tuesday marked the start of a five-week run at the Orpheum.

“Any time you have a show like Hamilton in town and a show that's going to be here through May six and give a lot of people the opportunity to experience the best, it's got to be a wonderful night,” says Mark Nerenhausen, President and CEO of Hennepin Theater Trust.

He says Hamilton will draw over 100,000 people to downtown Minneapolis.

“Downtown is alive. Downtown is vibrant. Downtown is still the place where we come together for events that you can't get anywhere else,” says Nerenhausen.

Hamilton is the story of America’s Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington’s right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and was the new nation’s first Treasury Secretary. Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B and Broadway, Hamilton takes history and blends it with a more modern sound.

The original Broadway Musical was a smash, with music, lyrics, and a book by Lin-Manuel Miranda. It is based on the 2004 book Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow. At the 70th Tony Awards, Hamilton received a record-breaking 16 nominations and won 11 awards, including Best Musical.

This is the second time Hamilton has come through Minneapolis after a string of sold out shows in 2018.

This show runs through May 6 and there are tickets still available for most shows. Ticket prices range from $119 to $349.
