Installing holiday lights for residential homes is extremely popular for Minnesotans this time of year. And it keeps those installers extremely busy.

Although Christmas is still 40-some days away, setting up lights for the holidays is big business for several local companies, including Holiday Lighting and Design.

"Kids go back to school, everyone starts reaching out," says Kevin Polski with Holiday Lighting and Design.

It’s so popular there’s never a dull moment.

"We're out here seven days a week working anywhere from, you know, 10 to 16 hours a day at some points," says Polski.

It’s so popular that even by Turkey Day people are sweating about their lights.

"That's when everybody starts getting worried that their lights aren't going to get up, but you know, we definitely leave that span of days just right before Thanksgiving to make sure that everybody's taken care of," he adds.

Polski says the day after Labor Day is when people start reaching out and they can receive from 10 to 40 requests per day.

It's a pretty high-tech process - they don't even have to come out and take measurements.

"Micah, who is our sales guy that's in the office, he will take their information, he'll plug their address into our satellite imaging software, and it allows us to measure all of the aspects of their home," says Polski. "From there we put an estimate together for them, and then from there if they want to move forward, then we put them on our schedule."

Polski's company also does the lighting for the Lift Bridge in Stillwater.
