Plan accordingly this weekend as I-94 Eastbound between Highway 280 and Western Avenue in St. Paul will be closed from 10:00 p.m. Friday until 5:00 a.m. Monday.
Among other things, Minnesota Department of Transportation crews will inspect and repair bridge decks, clean and repair storm sewer drainage structures, and remove graffiti on bridges and walls, the latter of which has become an increasing problem for crews.
"It does cost us money to send crews out to either paint over on noise walls or to remove the graffiti," says Kent Barnard of MnDOT. "There are quotings that are on some of the structures that somewhat resist graffiti or make it easier to remove graffiti."
Motorists can detour north on Highway 280, east on Highway 36 and south on I-35E.
This is the second time this month crews will be performing maintenance to bridges on I-94. Crews will also continue to remove vegetation, and repair and replace freeway lighting.
There's also a game at Allianz Field Saturday evening and that could be a problem for fans.
"I do want to recommend to people that are planning to attend the Minnesota United Loons soccer game this weekend that they try to find alternate routes," warned Barnard. "And then leave early and give themselves plenty of time to get to the game."
