Minnesota's 2nd District Congressional race will be decided next month after all.
A federal judge has granted an injunction requested by Congresswoman Angie Craig to stop a delay in the election. That delay was triggered with the sudden death of Adam Weeks last month. He was a the Legal Marijuana Now Candidate for 2nd district seat, and that party has major party status in Minnesota.
Secretary of State Steve Simon reacting to the news with Paul Douglas on WCCO Radio.
"We will always honor, of course, the outcome of a federal court case. What is not known at this point is whether there is going to be more to it. Will there be an appeal? I (have to) reserve judgement on that."
State law says if a major party candidate dies within 79 days of the general election, a special election should automatically be held the following February.
Craig, who is being challenged by Republican Tyler Kistner, argued that a special election would have left Minnesota as a disadvantage as that seat would have been left open when the next Congress is sworn in.
It is not known yet if there will be an appeal.
