How would you like to climb to the top of the historic Landmark Center's North Tower? Starting this Wednesday, you'll have that opportunity once a month for the next three months.

There are two ways to get to the top.

"I climbed the last stairs, I took the elevator though for the six floors," said one climber.

"We did stairs all the way. We've done cathedrals in Europe that are even taller, so this wasn't too bad," said another climber.

That's 199 stairs in all. And people are coming from all over to do it.

One came all the way from Milwaukee just for the opportunity to climb the building.

"Absolutely," she said about a view that she described as breathtaking. "Beautiful, absolutely beautiful."

"I love the views, especially on a day like today when it's nice and sunny out and wind is blowing lightly and not too hot, so I just love to see St. Paul from a different vantage point," explained another visitor.

All of this, atop the iconic North Tower of the Landmark Center.

If you missed the chance this Wednesday, the next opportunity for the public to take a trip to the top will be Wednesday July 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Landmark Center in downtown Saint Paul, known historically as the “Old Federal Courts Building,” was completed in 1902 and served as the Federal Court House, Custom House and U.S. Post Office for the Upper Midwest.

It took ten years to build at a cost of $2.5 million (in today’s dollars about $83 million). Today, Landmark Center serves as a cultural center for music, dance, theater, exhibitions, public forums, and hosts countless special events.
