Buildings and bridges will glow red Wednesday night for Fetal Alcohol Prevention Awareness.
Major local landmarks like U.S. Bank Stadium, and Allianz Field, to the France Avenue lights are gearing up to shine crimson as Pr%f Alliance kicks off its annual awareness campaign.
Organizers are hoping these glowing visual reminders will spark curiosity and conversations in communities statewide, according to executive director Molly O'Brien.
"You know, kids are going back to school and fetal alcohol spectrum disorders make it hard to learn," O'Brien explains. "That's one of the key pieces here. So we're trying to really build awareness and get that message going."
She says studies show that up to one in 20 children across the U.S. may be affected by these lesser known brain-based disabilities, and the campaign emphasizes that there's no safe amount of alcohol to consume during pregnancy.
25-year-student old Natasha De Campos Salles lives with complications from FAS.
"I think it's great that they're turning the city red," adds. De Campos Salles. "I just remember just how little recognition it had before and how many people are actually understanding what it really is now. It's really cool to see."
Organizers expect the glowing public structures to help bring traffic to their resource website during the awareness month.
