Several law enforcement agencies involved in the June 14 attacks on Minnesota lawmakers and their families are requesting an independent after-action report to look into their response.
The report will be prepared by the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
It's expected to be completed in six months, and will show what was done right, and where the agencies can improve.
The Brooklyn Park Police Chief explained why he and other law enforcement want an after action report. Chief Mark Bruley says they hope to learn more about how all of the agencies involved did in responding to this unprecedented event.
"There was no plan in place for what occurred on June 14th," says Bruley who says he felt it was the right thing to do, given the circumstances, and reports about the timing of the attacks and the manhunt.
"It absolutely did start from a lot of pressure from politicians and media, misinformation getting released," he adds.
House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband were killed, while state Senator John Hoffman his wife survived their injuries.
The suspect was arrested after a 43-hour manhunt and is facing murder charges. Vance Boelter remains in custody.
The nearly half million dollar pricetag is expected to be covered by the agencies involved.
"The responsible thing to do for the family, for the officers involved, for the state's law enforcement, that we do a review of this and have the facts of what took place come out," Bruley explains.
