The Minnesota Film and Television board is calling on Governor Walz and state legislators to extend the tax credit incentive that has gotten the the state back into the thick of competition for major film productions.

The board's Melodie Bahan told Susie Jones on the WCCO Morning News that her non-profit group should be replaced by a state-run agency.

"It's just not a good model," said Bahan of her non-profit group. "It doesn't work, it should be a state agency."

Minnesota is the only state without an official state-run film commission.

"There's so much competition right now for these millions and millions of dollars for production spending," said Bahan.

She said a state film commission would help provide workforce training and create good-paying jobs for those interested in the film production industry.

The 2023 Minnesota legislative session begins Tuesday.
