A mystery has arisen in Rogers, Minnesota, where a maintenance worker who was cleaning out a sewer drain stumbled upon what he’s calling a “diamond in the rough.”
The discovery was made last week at the Metropolitan Council Wastewater Treatment Center.
“It was black, covered in gook, but the diamonds were still sparkly, and so it really stood out,” said Plant manager John Tierney.
He said he does not know how long it has been there, but he would like to see it returned to its rightful owner.
“Not sure how it made it into the wastewater stream and ended up at the plant,” Tierney said, “It would have been from the northwest area. The interceptors that collect the wastewater for Rogers.”
He said they are not describing the ring because they want to ensure it goes to the right person.
He says the ring is unique, and they would like the prospective owner to describe it before they hand it over.
“We like to have them explain to us. The gold and the setting,” Tierney said. “I’m sure the lady who lost the ring I’m sure that she would be able to describe it to a tee because it is very unique.”
He said they are not sure how long it has been there either, so that could make it a little more difficult to find the owner.
If they are not successful, he is not sure what they will do.
“The gold is really beat up, so we may melt it down and extract the diamonds and maybe have lunch,” Tierney chuckled. “I’m really hoping that we find the rightful owner.”
If you think the ring could be yours, send an email to inquiries@metc.state.mn.us or call (651) 602-1269. The owner will have to accurately describe the ring or provide photo evidence if possible.
