23-year old Dalvin Jarrell Crockett has been found guilty on one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct while armed with a dangerous weapon and one count of first-degree aggravated robbery.
Crockett was involved in two separate incidents, the first was at an apartment complex on February 5th. The other incident occurred three days later at a hotel on the 1900 block of University Avenue West.
Both victims told police they had been sexually assaulted by Crockett.
After his arrest on February 16th, he told investigators he also robbed the escorts because he was behind on his rent.
“While today’s news is about a guilty verdict, my thoughts are with the victim," says Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty. "She did not have to testify but her courageous participation in the prosecution of Mr. Crockett strengthened our case and led to today’s verdict. We have delivered accountability for Mr. Crockett and the community will be protected from him."
Moriarty also points out this is a crime that often doesn't get victims the justice they deserve.
“Sex workers are often ignored by elements of the justice system when victimized," Moriarty explained. "This is reprehensible. All members of our community are entitled to protection under our laws.”
