Family members have identified the person shot and killed by St Paul Police Monday night during a call for a domestic situation.

24-year-old Howard Johnson, a father of twin boys, was killed in the Dayton's Bluff neighborhood when police say he raised a gun in their direction.

Last night at a vigil near the scene on Hudson Road, Johnson's mother Monique spoke about how special her son was to her.

"My son was my protector. He was loving. He was kind."

St. Paul Police held a press conference after the shooting but didn't offer many details. Johnson's cousin, Rea Smith, is calling for the body cam footage to be released.

"If their truth is their truth, let it be seen. Why are you hiding it?"

St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter tweeted that he is working with St. Paul Police to learn more about the incident.

Johnson had been convicted in a previous domestic violence case and had an active warrant out for his arrest.
