In Minnesota, according to the most recent data 82 people have died in the last 20 years due to firearm accidents.
Moriarty says to combat those statistics free gun locks will now be available at 11 libraries throughout the county.
"Gun lock programs are extremely effective in increasing safe storage practices," says Moriarty, " therefore they also decrease gun fatalities."
Moriarty also addressed her controversial move to not to charge a 33-year-old Minneapolis man accused of damaging multiple Tesla vehicles last month.
"Just like any other property offense, which is one of the lowest level offenses we have, we seek to hold people accountable in a way that will be consistent with public safety."
Police say six different Tesla vehicles were targeted near downtown Minneapolis by a man who was caught on vehicle cameras causing over 20 thousand dollars of damage.
Moriarty says a felony conviction was not the route she and her office wanted to take in the case.
She says the man involved will enter a crime diversion program and pay back damages to the six victims.
