The Minneapolis Care and Control Center needs your help. At the moment, the facility is at max capacity.

"We've seen a large increase due in part to our communities requesting that they surrender their pets to us," says Tony Schendel Director of Animal Care and Control. "We believe it's from access to affordable vet care and also housing insecurity and it's not only here at MAC, we're seeing it nationwide."

So this week, they're encouraging people to come in and adopt.

"Our pets that we're adopting out come fully vaccinated, they're microchipped and they're sterilized, spayed or neutered," says Schendel.

It's also one of the most inexpensive ways to add a family pet.

"Our adoption fees are extremely low cost," Schendel explained. "For Minneapolis residents, for dogs seven months of age or older, they're free. They just need to purchase a city pet license which can be either $15 or $30. And then for cats, same thing."

For non-Minneapolis residents, dogs are $100 with no license fee and cats are only $25, also with no license fee.
