Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey set out on a of tour small business across the city to promote shopping small.
Minneapolis has plenty to offer when it comes to shopping beyond traditional brick and mortar stores, including the Mayor's second stop , Lake Street gift shop Corazon.
Mayor Frey says this holiday, shop Minneapolis-made.
"When you go and you shop for this Christmas and Hanukkah and Kwanzaa season, I think it's on you to say, 'well, I could look at a bunch of different products that come from out of state, even out of country, or I can look at the stuff that is made right here in Minneapolis,'" says Frey.
U.S. Small Business Administrator Geri Aglipay joined Frey on his tour saying it's important that the support for local shops goes beyond once a year.
"Every year, we celebrate small business Saturday and actually we want people to shop small, but also throughout the year," Aglipay told WCCO.
Mayor Frey stressed the importance behind local merchants and manufacturers.
First I went to Wood From The Hood, and they are making incredible products from trees that were cut down here in Minneapolis," says the mayor. "They have made sure to use that wood to make beautiful tables, and products, and cutting boards, and all sorts of stuff. And now our next stop is where they're selling it, right here on East Lake."
The tour comes ahead of Small Business Saturday, happening November 25.
