A first-ever in Minneapolis as the city opens up two pop-up resilience centers to support the entire community affected by the Annunciation Church tragedy and recent shootings along Lake St.
"So, we have mental health care at both of the pop-up centers," explains Minneapolis Emergency Management Director Rachel Sayre. "We have crime victim services, which is things like help filling out forms if you're eligible for financial reimbursement. Sometimes, during the times this is what will be open, we might have therapy animals."
Sayre says it is free and everyone is invited to stop by at the two different locations if they're seeking support. The locations are at the Washburn Library, the other one in Wait House near Lake Street.
"You know, everyone has their own experience, their own pace, but we all can benefit from help," says Sayre.
Minneapolis calls the Resilience Center "a welcoming and supportive space for community members" who were affected by the tragedy at Annunciation.
They call the spaces a place that those affected can recover together, connect with neighbors, and access resources further resources such as mental health care and apply for financial assistance which could include medical issues or funeral services.
You can also contribute financially to support the victims of the Annunciation Church shooting that occurred on Aug. 27 in south Minneapolis.
The Annunciation Hope and Healing Fund is organized by the Catholic Community Foundation. The Minneapolis Foundation is supporting this effort with their text-to-give function, and all donations will be distributed to the Annunciation Hope and Healing Fund.
"Everyone has a different experience of it, and everyone's experience is valid. Everyone deserves to access mental health and healing support for wherever they're at," Sayre adds.
Two children were killed, with many other parishioners injured in the shooting in August after a gunman opened fire through the windows during a mass just after the school year began.
The center is open on Wednesdays in November. Find more information, including future dates and hours, here.
