Multiple law enforcement agencies and an armored vehicle were on the scene at a home in North Minneapolis this afternoon where a suspect barricaded himself in a house in the area of Dowling and DuPont Avenues North.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara and Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt gave an update on the warrant that was served by the FBI and eventually led to the fatal shooting of the suspect.

Sheriff Witt explained that both Minneapolis Police and the Hennepin County Sheriff deputies were there in a support role with Federal agencies.

“There was an investigation that started here early this morning, which led to a barricaded subject, and negotiations were going on for hours,” Sheriff Witt said. “There were multiple agencies involved in this incident. And, with that being said, the subject who was the target here was shot and succumbed to his injuries. There was another person in the home who has been taken to the hospital for medical care.”

The sheriff also stressed that the situation involved an “armed suspect.”

“During the course of this incident, which went on for several hours, this person was on social media videotaping what was happening from inside the residence live,” O’Hara said.

Witt says that both she and O’Hara’s agencies are limited in the information they can provide as it involves federal officers, but the investigation remains ongoing.

“I can confirm there were no Minneapolis police officers involved in any use of force incident here today,” O’Hara said.

The FBI released a statement on the shooting, saying that it is reviewing the agent involved shooting.

The agency said it "takes all shooting incidents involving our agents or task force members seriously."

"Swat operators from FBI Minneapolis were serving an arrest warrant. After barricading himself for several hours, the subject was armed as he emerged from the home," the FBI statement said. "The subject was fatally wounded, and another individual required medical assistance; both were transported to the hospital."
