A 12-year-old girl who had been missing in Minneapolis since Saturday night is back home and safe following a massive search, that included police sending out an emergency alert Tuesday afternoon.
Police chief Brian O'Hara says Victoria Jackson returned home last night and that her family contacted police to tell them she had returned.
"We got an ambulance for her, her dad was with her inside the ambulance so she could be checked out," says O'Hara, "The stepmom was very very emotional and overcome and just so thankful that she was home, and that she is ok."
The Chief went on to say it appears Jackson, was at a friends house.
"It's a place that the police had visited multiple times, it's a place that the step mom had been in communication with the adult there," O'Hara recalled, "So obviously it's concerning that a child had been there this long."
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey thanked investigators overnight for their efforts in the search.
"I think out entire city right now is breathing a huge sigh of relief," he says," because Victoria is safe and she is at home."
Search efforts were heightened over concerns about Jackson's lack of insulin due to her Type 1 diabetes.
O'Hara adds that EMS did check her out, and that she had not run out of insulin.
