According to News Talk 830 WCCO Political Analyst Blois Olson, his sources say that both Minneapolis and St. Paul will end the vaccine mandate on bars and restaurants in the cities. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey issued his proclamation at 10:30am.
"I have just confirmed that officials in Minneapolis and St. Paul will announce that the vax mandate for bars, restuaraunts, events will be lifted," Olson said while hosting the midday show.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey says that the numbers are allowing him to make this decision.
“Key public health metrics are trending in the right direction. That is a welcomed sign for Minneapolis, especially for the small businesses and restaurants that have shouldered the weight of this pandemic. Let’s hold the momentum and bring our city back in full by continuing to follow public health guidance and supporting local businesses.”
St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter echoed Mayor Frey's sentiment in excitement that both cities are in a better place in the fight against COVID.
"We are grateful to be in a different place now than we were when this requirement first took effect. While I encourage residents to continue to get vaccinated, wear masks, and practice social distancing while indoors, the sharp decline in cases and hospitalizations means we can safely lift the vaccine requirement in our city.”
Olson says that he believe the mask mandate will stay in effect in both cities in the near future.
