A retraction from the Minneapolis teacher's union over a controversial statement earlier this month regarding the war in the Middle East.

The original proclamation condemned what it called "the system of Israeli occupation and apartheid" and endorsed a boycott of the Israeli state.

But in a new resolution passed yesterday, the Federation of Teachers Local 59 say they regret those words, admitting they harmed many Jewish members, students and families while causing unnecessary division within the union.

It adds that the organization is concerned for Jewish, Muslim, Israeli, and Palestinian students, who are deeply hurting and that their focus is on fostering a safe learning environment for all.

The Jewish Community Relations Council has applauded the updated resolution.
