
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison will seek a third term after announcing his re-election bid on Tuesday morning.
Ellison, first elected to the office in 2018, noted a number of cases spearheaded by his office which noted, "has taken on the powerful on behalf of Minnesotans."
“I’m running for re-election to keep Minnesota a fair place, where rule of law prevails over power and privilege,” Ellison said in a press release. “Since Minnesota elected me seven years ago, we’ve won tough fights to help Minnesotans afford their lives. We don’t bow down to kings in America, not presidents, not billionaires, not giant corporations, because everyone deserves to afford their life.”
Ellison narrowly won a 2022 re-election bid, defeating GOP challenger Jim Schultz with 50.4% of the the vote.
In a video released Tuesday, Ellison vowed to keep taking on the Trump Administration which his office has join in several lawsuits against.
"We have a president who thinks he's king," Ellison said. "Destroying our systems of government, violating our rights, and in the same breath, he gives billionaires tax cuts while cutting vital services like Medicaid, education, and healthcare. We don't bow to kings in America."
Republicans are expected to target the AG's race in Minnesota, with Minneapolis attorney Ron Schutz, a Republican, already announcing a bid for the GOP endorsement.
