The Minnesota Department of Health is cracking down on retailers trying to sell illegal high-dose TCH products.
The legal limit in Minnesota is just 5 mg per serving and 50 mg per package of edibles.
The Health Department's Chris Elvrum says many of these products are coming from outside Minnesota.
"Part of our effort will be identifying the sources of these products and going upstream so that we can at least get to wholesalers or distributors if they're not manufactured in the state and try to th the flow that way," Elvrum explains.
Elvrum says while they will be conducting internal investigations they are also asking for the public's help.
"People do find especially these high-risk products out there and they want to report them," says Elvrum. "You can go to the health department's website and look for hemp derived cannabinoid products."
The state is launching a targeted effort to remove high dose products from stores and are asking the public to report on any retailer violations.
"These products can have an adverse health impact," says Elvrum. "It can make people anxious or paranoid, it can cause delusions, it can increase your heart rate."
Recent inspections found these illegal high-dose products in thirty-nine percent of Minnesota's establishments. Retailers who violate industry limits can be fined of up to $10,000 per incident.
