Minnesota DFL Party Chair Ken Martin and Chair of the Republican Party David Hann are coming together to encourage Minnesotans to participate in state caucuses ahead of the Super Tuesday Presidential primary.
The two leaders say if there’s one thing they agree on it's getting Minnesotans involved.
"There are things that the Republican party and the DFL party agree on, and this is one of them," says Martin, " and that's the message we really wanted to send today, that our democracy is worth fighting for."
One of the most important tasks at caucuses is giving Minnesotans a platform, but it will also get voters to pledge their support to a particular party.
Martin and Hann say with a critical election ahead they both need to hear from voters. Chair Martin says the importance of activating Minnesotans rises above the differences of the two parties.
"I think there's probably a few differences in how we end up doing it and the issues that we are probably talking about," says Martin. "But the reality is, the idea of giving people the power to help shape their party platform is not completely unique to Minnesota, but certainly is one that we take great pride in."
Republicans and Democrats in Minnesota will hold their precinct caucuses Tuesday.
Super Tuesday is March 5 and is traditionally one of the most important dates on the U.S. political calendar.
Minnesota along with Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, and Virginia will tentatively hold their presidential primaries on this date.
