State Democratic leaders are distancing themselves from a locally endorsed candidate for the Minnesota house of representatives.

Judd Hoff is accused of harassing Republican State Representative Mary Franson.

Hoff was endorsed by local Democrats for central Minnesota House seat that Franson has held since 2011.

A Youtube posting of Hoff describing his actions was pointed out by a state GOP official.

In the video, Hoff said he lives across the street from Franson in Alexandria, and found certain items while going through her garbage.

Hoff also has a long criminal record, including a felony second-degree assault conviction for waving a 23-inch machete during an argument.

Records show that confrontation began when a man approached Hoff about flying an American flag upside-down from a vehicle.

Minnesota DFL party chair Ken Martin is calling for local officials to withdraw their endorsement of Hoff, saying that Democrats expect better from candidates for office.

Franson won re-election in 2022 with almost 70 percent of the vote, and has been endorsed for her current campaign.
