For all who missed the wintertime snow and wished the white stuff would come, today is your day.

In fact, it'll be the best five or six days of your cold-weather season.

An early spring storm that started Thursday night and ended Friday morning brought about four inches of snow to the Twin Cities metro, with some areas reporting spikes of six inches.

And that's just the warm-up.

A winter storm watch goes into effect Sunday, last through Monday, and some stray flakes may fall on Tuesday as well.

The result is five to ten inches of snow early next week, give or take, with forecasters waiting to see how the storm moves across the state.

"It's going to be plowable, and still I think Sunday (will be) the worst travel day," said WCCO chief meteorologist Paul Douglas. "There could be additional accumulation between Monday and Tuesday, depending on that storm track."

Before all that, there's dealing with what we got in what's turning into the snowiest week since the weather turned last fall.

MinDOT plows were out late Thursday into Friday, including the name-the-plow contest winners Taylor Drift, Dolly Plowton, Barbie's Dream Plow, and You’re Killin’ Me Squalls.

The bad weather overnight is blamed for 175 motor vehicle crashes, one of them fatal, with 101 spinouts and three jackknifed semi-trailers.
