Minnesota has the first known case of the Brazilian strain of COVID-19 in the United States.

In news release, the Minnesota Department of Health says the case was confirmed in a Minnesotan who recently traveled to Brazil.
The Brazil strain is believed to be more transmissible than the original strain of COVID, but it's not yet known if the new strain causes more serious illness.
The health department says the person with the Brazil variant is a Twin Cities resident who was tested January 9th after becoming ill.
More investigation is underway to determine that person's contact prior to having the positive test.
