The Minnesota Department of Public Safety is once again lunching it's summer speed enforcement campaign.
Agencies across Minnesota are increasing patrols to kick off the "100 Deadliest Days" of summer, targeting speeding and other dangerous driving behaviors now through Labor day.
"Speed enforcement is going to be continuing out throughout the whole summer, but specifically this summer because roads are roads are dry, people are more relaxed and just excited to get out there and do the fun things with their families," says Shannon Grabow with the Office of Traffic Safety. "But we just really want to focus on making sure people get there safely."
Grabow says the effort this year follows nearly 400 serious injuries linked to dangerous road behaviors last year - and 100 speed-related deaths.
That means law enforcement agencies are ramping up efforts to catch drivers using phones or losing focus during the high-traffic months between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
"So it's not just all about speed, it's all about making sure that people are sober, driving sober, making a decision to plan ahead," Grabow adds. "Pay attention, put that phone away, really focusing on the roadway ahead of you, buckling up, always wearing your seatbelt."
She says at least 21 people were killed and 159 seriously injured in distracted driving crashes across Minnesota in 2025.
