A Minnesota man is missing in Bighorn National Forest in Wyoming.

Authorities there say 38-year old Grant Gardner was on a three-day hike to Cloud Peak, the tallest peak in the Bighorns at over 13,000 feet.

Gardner apparantly made it to the summit at 9:00 p.m. July 29 and texted his wife to let her know he made it.

In the text, Gardner explained that the climb was "more taxing" than he thought and that he "was tired."

Gardner hasn't been heard from since. Gardner's wife, Lauren, told Wyoming's Cowboy State Daily he is an experienced outdoorsman, and is always meticulous about being prepared.

Teams have worked through the weekend, but searchers have noted conditions have been extreme and very challenging, with two searchers needing medical assistance.

Authorities said high altitude, terrain changes, winds and storms are making the search even more difficult.

Big Horn County Sheriff Ken Blackburn explained that they are still in a search and rescue operation, not recovery.

"The late summit of 7:00pm at 13,000 feet was and is concerning due to the lack of visible trails through cliffs, timber line, boulder fields, and other hazards that had to be navigated after dark before reaching clear trails and safe terrain," Sheriff Gardner wrote on Facebook.

Gardner, who is from Lakeville, Minnesota, has two children aged 13 and 11.

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office is requesting anyone who may have had contact with Gardner, please report to the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office at 307-568-2324 or the Wyoming Missing Person Tip line on the Wyoming DCI website.
