Minnesota hospitalizations due to COVID-19 have grown to a 2021, representing a pre-vaccination high, as the state reports an 8.3% test positivity rate.
960 are currently hospitalized due to COVID-19 complications, including 254 in intensive care. 96% of ICU beds in the state are occupied. Health experts have stressed how the high-transmissible delta variant has changed the course of the pandemic.
The Minnesota Department of Health Tuesday reported 10 deaths due to COVID-19 and more than 8,000 new cases. Nine of the 10 who died were older adults, except for a Morrison County resident in their early 40s.
The peak for hospitalizations was nearly 1,900 in late November.
According to the CDC, Minnesota is in the top 10 in new infection rate for the past seven days.
