A Minnesota soldier was among six service members killed over the weekend in the war with Iran.
Sgt. 1st Class Nicole Amor of White Bear Lake was among four soldiers identified yesterday by the Defense Department.
Admiral Brad Cooper leads Operation Epic Fury.
“First, I'd like to express my deepest condolences to the families and teammates of the extraordinary Americans who've been killed in action,” says Cooper, “I'd also like to extend our prayers for a speedy recovery to the wounded.”
Amor was assigned to the 103rd Sustainment Command out of Des Moines, Iowa and deployed to Kuwait in 2019.
Amor was killed during an Iranian drone attack on a facility in Kuwait. Amor who was 39 leaves behind a husband and two children.
Her husband telling the Associated Press that Amor was just days away from returning home. Questions are being raised about whether the facility Amor was in was properly fortified to keep service members safe.
The Pentagon identified Amor and three other members of the Des Moines-based 103rd Sustainment Command as the first casualties of Operation Epic Fury.
Investigations are currently underway regarding the lack of overhead defenses at the port facility, which was being used as a dispersed command hub to mitigate risks from larger base attacks.
As retaliatory strikes continue across the region, officials have warned that further American casualties are expected while the conflict intensifies.
