It's going to cost more just to get into the 2025 Minnesota State Fair.
Entrance ticket prices were raised by two dollars in all categories, with the extra funds helping to cover facility improvements that include a significant upgrade of Lee and Rose Warner Coliseum.
The announcement came Sunday, following conclusion of the 166th annual meeting of the Minnesota State Agricultural Society board, governing body of the Great Minnesota Get-Together.
There will also be a five-dollar price increase to park on any of the state fair-operated lots adjacent to the historic fairgrounds in Falcon Heights.
On-site parking will be $25, while State Fair-sponsored Park & Ride service and on-site bike parking will continue to be free.
Here's the breakdown on new state fair ticket prices:
•Pre-fair discount admission tickets for all ages Jan. 27 through Aug. 20: $17
• Regular fair-time admission at the gate: Adults (ages 13-64) - $20; Seniors (65+) and Kids (ages 5-12) - $18; Children (4 and under) - always free
• Promotional day discounts will continue to be offered on Opening Day, Aug. 21; Seniors Days, Aug. 25 and 28; Military Appreciation Day, Aug. 26; and Kids Days, Aug. 27 and Sept. 1.
The ticket price hike does not affect the current offer of pre-fair discount tickets, which are on sale for $15 through Sunday.
State Fair CEO Renee Alexander is quoted saying that after keeping prices flat between 2023 and 2024, they are dealing with higher operational costs and the need to maintain and enhance aging facilities.
The Minnesota State Fair does not receive a state subsidy.
The $14 dollar coliseum project is reportedly the building's first significant upgrade since it first opened 75 years ago on the site of the old Hippodrome.
The 2024 Minnesota State Fair drew 1,925,904, the sixth-most in history.
This year's State Fair starts on Aug. 21 and ends on Labor Day, Sept. 1.
